Good Reads

Your teens live in a MySpace® world with different sorts of challenges than you faced. In Disconnected: Parenting Teens in a MySpace World authors, parents, and family experts, Chap and Dee Clark help you understand your teen. They describe how things have changed since you were a teenager and offers you ways to build your relationship with your teens while instilling in them the values they need to survive and thrive in their world.

Contemporary adolescents seem confident, well-adjusted, and happy. But beneath the surface, they're often lonely, insecure, and empty. What's going on? Claiming that adults have "abandoned" teens just when they most need support, Clark's ethnographic study examines today's changing youth culture from the inside out and suggests five strategies to "turn the tide of systemic abandonment." 236 pages, softcover from Baker.

Not the birds and the bees, guys' plumbing vs. girls' plumbing, how-it-all-works talk. Let's talk about sexuality; your sexuality and the sexuality of others. Let's talk about what is and isn't okay to look at, do, and think about.

Questions You Can't Ask Your Mama About Sex is exactly that - questions too uncomfortable to talk about with your parents. This collection of discussions is drawn from real questions asked of the folks at XXXchurch.com. No topic is off limits - masturbation, pre-marital sex, technical virginity, pornography, homosexuality, sex toys, sex addiction.

Not for the squeamish, these issues focus on the culture and commerce of sex to tell you what God has to say about keeping your clothes on. If you have questions about "doin' it" that are burning a hole in the back of your head (or somewhere else on your body), look no further than this book.

Baptism

NorthPointe Church is having a baptism this Sunday, April 20 after our 10:30 AM High School service.

WHAT IS BAPTISM?

Baptism is the act of a BELIEVING Christian who wants to publicly confess their personal commitment to Jesus Christ. It is the symbolic WASHING AWAY of one's old, sinful past and the RISING again to LIFE, God's way. The act of baptism can be defined as an outward expression of an inward decision.

WHAT DOES BAPTISM MEAN?

Baptism illustrates Jesus' BURIAL and RESURRECTION. "Christ died for our sins ... He was buried ... and He rose again." 1 Corinthians 15: 3-4 Baptism illustrates NEW LIFE as a Christian. "By our baptism then, we were buried with Him and shared His death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead... so also we may live a NEW LIFE." Romans 6: 4 Baptism does not make you a Christian. It is a demonstration that you already believe. It is important to understand that baptism does not "save" you. You are "saved" only by your faith in Jesus.

WHY DO WE GET BAPTIZED?

To follow the example set by CHRIST & because Christ COMMANDED it. ". . . Jesus came from Nazareth and was baptized by John in the river." Mark 1: 9"Jesus said, Go then, to all people everywhere and make them my disciples, baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit..." Matthew 28:19-20
