Houseboats 2008

Our HIGH SCHOOL Houseboats trip is now full.

Spread the Love

Week 3 of Love: Know it. Feel it. Spread it.
"Spread the Love"
Speaker: Kevin Manning

We are all spreading some message...
What is your message?
How is your message determined?
MY MESSAGE: Is determined by...things I do, things I say, places I go, music I love, clothes I wear, friends I have, movies I watch...If people say, "who are you," they will look to these things
Really spreading the love is about who you are...
What is your message of love?
Answer: depends on who you are...
What spreading love doesn't mean:
1. To love the ways of the world. (spreading the wrong love)
2. To accept everybody's actions. (spreading a wrong message)

What spreading love does mean:
1. Choosing God's way as my way.
2. Accepting people not their thoughts and actions.
What does it look like to spread the love of Christ?
James 1:22 & Colossians 3:12-14
Checking in...a self evaluation (questions to ask yourself)

Heart:
How often are you saddened by people in need?
Do you desire to show kindness to others?
How do you demonstrate concern that other people’s needs are met?
Do you struggle with anger? Or are you a pretty gentle person?
How easy is it for you to forgive grudges?

Mouth:
How do you tell your friends you are concerned about them?
When was the last time you said something that cheered up one of your friends?
What are most of your conversations about?
How do you build up your friends through encouraging them?
Do you remind people of how they have wronged you in the past?

Hands:
What do you do to help people who are in need?
What are some things you have done to show kindness to a friend or family member?
Do you act in a way that demonstrates a servant’s attitude to your friends and family?
Where was the last place you went to help someone out? When?

CHANGE FOR BABIES

NorthPointe is partnering with the Pregnancy Care Center to help raise money for pregnant women who need help with prenatal care.

Weekend Recap!

Due to some technical difficulties and Greg (our resident techie) being gone, we were not able to record our message this weekend. But, have no fear...here's the cliff notes version.

Week 1 of Love: Know it. Feel it. Spread it.

"Know the Love"

Speaker: Rob Manley

Jesus' love = agape (deep love/commitment/unselfish)

Peter's love = phileo(surface love/friendly)

Rob challenged students to write down some names of people you tell you "love" in your circle.

The he asked:

What do you mean when you say I love you?

How do we know what they mean when they say they love us?

How do we know love when we see it?

1. We know love by explanation

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

2. We know love by example

1 Peter 2:21 & John 15:13

Action Steps

Retrace your steps (see it for what it is)

Psalm 139: 23-24

Relearn (live it for all it is)

Romans 12:2 & 1 Corinthians 13:11-12

Last Thought

Do you get it?

Houseboats 2008

We still have 10 spots open (7 guys and 3 girls)! The cost is $160 for first timers! June 15-20 are the dates. Don't miss this incredible trip. Your student will love it!

New series starts May 4!

Ever wondered what Love is or what it’s all about? We throw the term around a lot in church but it’s a word we don’t always understand. Some of us say I Love you all the time but some of us are afraid to ever utter the term. How can we use Love to describe out relationship to a parent, a friend, a boyfriend/girlfriend, a pet and food? Is it really all the same? Join us in the Wherehouse as we dig into this thing called love and see what it’s all about.

Good Reads

Your teens live in a MySpace® world with different sorts of challenges than you faced. In Disconnected: Parenting Teens in a MySpace World authors, parents, and family experts, Chap and Dee Clark help you understand your teen. They describe how things have changed since you were a teenager and offers you ways to build your relationship with your teens while instilling in them the values they need to survive and thrive in their world.

Contemporary adolescents seem confident, well-adjusted, and happy. But beneath the surface, they're often lonely, insecure, and empty. What's going on? Claiming that adults have "abandoned" teens just when they most need support, Clark's ethnographic study examines today's changing youth culture from the inside out and suggests five strategies to "turn the tide of systemic abandonment." 236 pages, softcover from Baker.

Not the birds and the bees, guys' plumbing vs. girls' plumbing, how-it-all-works talk. Let's talk about sexuality; your sexuality and the sexuality of others. Let's talk about what is and isn't okay to look at, do, and think about.

Questions You Can't Ask Your Mama About Sex is exactly that - questions too uncomfortable to talk about with your parents. This collection of discussions is drawn from real questions asked of the folks at XXXchurch.com. No topic is off limits - masturbation, pre-marital sex, technical virginity, pornography, homosexuality, sex toys, sex addiction.

Not for the squeamish, these issues focus on the culture and commerce of sex to tell you what God has to say about keeping your clothes on. If you have questions about "doin' it" that are burning a hole in the back of your head (or somewhere else on your body), look no further than this book.

Baptism

NorthPointe Church is having a baptism this Sunday, April 20 after our 10:30 AM High School service.

WHAT IS BAPTISM?

Baptism is the act of a BELIEVING Christian who wants to publicly confess their personal commitment to Jesus Christ. It is the symbolic WASHING AWAY of one's old, sinful past and the RISING again to LIFE, God's way. The act of baptism can be defined as an outward expression of an inward decision.

WHAT DOES BAPTISM MEAN?

Baptism illustrates Jesus' BURIAL and RESURRECTION. "Christ died for our sins ... He was buried ... and He rose again." 1 Corinthians 15: 3-4 Baptism illustrates NEW LIFE as a Christian. "By our baptism then, we were buried with Him and shared His death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead... so also we may live a NEW LIFE." Romans 6: 4 Baptism does not make you a Christian. It is a demonstration that you already believe. It is important to understand that baptism does not "save" you. You are "saved" only by your faith in Jesus.

WHY DO WE GET BAPTIZED?

To follow the example set by CHRIST & because Christ COMMANDED it. ". . . Jesus came from Nazareth and was baptized by John in the river." Mark 1: 9"Jesus said, Go then, to all people everywhere and make them my disciples, baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit..." Matthew 28:19-20

Questions? Is your student ready to be baptized? Call Angela at 276-2300 today!
